Clos Bartolomé

A young man over 40 years old

The essence of Priorat in every drop

Clos Bartolomé negre is a wine made with grapes from the plots of “Els Molins” and “La Fornatxa” aged 40 to 80 years. Vineyards grown traditionally with respect and sensitivity for the terroir. It has been made in a stainless steel tank and aged for twelve months in French oak barrels.

This red wine is the last fruit of Celler Bartolomé’s vines. It presents a mixture of Garnacha and Carignan grape varieties, collected from old vines of 40 to 80 years. Both young and old at the same time: a fascinating contrast.

All the personality and character instilled by the native land in the plots of “Els Molins” and “La Fornatxa” with the boldness, potential and freshness of red fruits, with certain violet touches. Beyond an exceptional wine from a harvest defined as very good, Clos Bartolomé red wine is a real find. Yesterday and today, all in one drink.

Collection and production

For the production of this wine, the Grenache and Carignan varieties are used, collected from vines between 40 and 80 years old. The grapes from the vineyard are picked by hand and transported in boxes so that they arrive at their destination intact, healthy and in optimal conditions for wine production. Vinification was carried out at a controlled temperature of 26-28°C and the must remained in fermentation vats for fourteen days, the time required to create a wine with the right level of color and polyphenolic substances.

Wine characteristics

This wine has an intense cherry red colour with violet hues on the meniscus, an unmistakable sign of its youth. Its aroma is powerful, fruity (ripe fruits, red berries…), concentrated and ripe, with balsamic notes and mineral reminiscences on an oak background that provides light touches of toasted flavours and high-quality spices. On the palate it is strong and fleshy, providing the enjoyment of a certain complexity, while remaining pleasant, voluptuous and well-structured. The fruit and oak of the boots are finely integrated. Its tannins are fine and ripe and, together with the subtle notes of spices, it becomes a very fine, elegant and long-lasting wine, with an aftertaste of concentrated ripe fruit.
